Disaster in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Cuddalore District in Tamilnadu:

  • The City of Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Cuddalore District got 24.65 cm rainfall on 1st Dec. 2015 is likely to be a record of almost 40 years. The downpour rain played all the day long on 01.12.2015.
  • The city of Chennai already experienced in November till midnight of 1st December 2015, 119.73 cm rainfall breaking the record of 108.8 cm in 1918 till now the highest on record.
  • As a result of this unforeseen and unprecedented floods, half of Chennai Marooned and the remainings submerged.
  • Residents of Tambaram and Mudichur were the worst affected. Most areas in Vyasarpadi, Korukkupet and Besin Bride were submerged. This disaster cause greet destruction leaving scores of people homeless.
  • The death toll climbed exceeding 400 since the onset of Monsoon in October end in the city and neighbouring districts. The unprecedented floods ravaged farm lands in several Districts.
  • The registered office of BREAD TRUST situated in Ashok Nagar, Chennai was submerged and all the records, office equipments, furniture etc were completely washed out. Water rose beyond the ground floor of apartment complexes.
  • Our Marialla Children’s home situated in Church building at free of cost in Vayalur Village near Kalpakkam of Kancheepuram District also surrounded by floods, The belongings of all inmates were totally spoiled and also the provisions in the Kitchen. Vayalur, was virtually cutoff from Kalpakkam and Pondicherry due to breakings of Bridges of Kalpakkam, Elainarkuppam, Poonthandalam and irumbulicherry, Vayalur is in front of 3 Kms. from Bay of Bengal situated very adjacent fo Palar River where the river waters from many sources accumulate and joins the ocean, Residents of Vayalur Village never met such a rising level in flood over the last 100 years.
  • Though we lost much, our service continues Most of the NGOs Played a vital role in relief measures. Our sincere thanks to Central and State Government Machinaries, State Police, Fire and rescue services, State and National Disaster response forces (NDRF) and Coast Guard, Army personnel, NGOs etc. rescued people from a flooded area in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore and Kancheepuram Districts.
  • We appreciate Chennai residents come together to lend each other a helping hand.
